Positives: Networking with other students and being able to join in and collaborate with others. Instruments and practice room facilities are really useful and there is always availability. Tech staff know what they are doing when maintaining equipment, setting up for performances and helping you/answering your questions
Negatives: Depending on your lecturer, the lectures and tutorials can be very time consuming and very boring. Sometimes lecturers go off in a tangent and don’t cover all the content, leaving you on your own to catch up with the course. Tutorial rooms are small and only hold a certain amount of people, meaning sessions can run into the late afternoon and take up your entire days worth of time. Only recommend taking this course if you are prepared for the commitment
My advice to future students is: The parking has to be paid for.
Positives: Lots of performance opportunities. There are opportunities to sub-major in various aspects of music, such as musicology, performance, composition and sound technology. The facilities are industry standard.
Negatives: UWS Music does not have the reputation of the Con or UNSW. There could be more opportunities to link closely to the Master of Teaching.
My advice to future students is: Use your electives to learn from subjects outside of music. Use the course to make contacts with other musicians.
Positives: It help give an overall education on design
Negatives: Feeling the cost of the course financially years later
My advice to future students is: To really consider all aspects for example the cost and if the course really encompasses what they want to learn.
POSITIVE: that we have all of the creative freedom we want AND no exams!
My advice to future students is: you can do anything if you put your mind to it
Positives: Relevant to future career, opportunities for practical experiences, meeting like minded people, supportive and inspiring teachers.
Negatives: can be stressful due to demanding deadlines.
My advice to future students is: Be brave, work hard, follow your instincts and enjoy your studies.
