I completed commerce and a systems double degree.

Positives: Students are given the autonomy and freedom to decide their course of major and there are adequate breadth subjects for students to pursue other minor interests as well.

Negatives: Tutors who are from mainland china with very poor command of English. Some of them were even tutoring law subjects which arguably require a higher level of command of English.

My advice to future students is: Enjoy yourselves

I'm doing my honours.

Positives: Good for those who are interested in areas within the BA e.g. history, media, politics, but still want to explore different options and get a broad humanities education. Honours year is challenging but rewarding, and staff are excellent

Negatives: Larger faculties can feel a bit impersonal, slow essay marking turnaround, first and second year subjects can be quite dry

My advice to future students is: Research your uni options!! Look at things like opportunities for study abroad, subject structure, compulsory subjects etc. to see if you might actually be interested in the course content - don’t just look at the name of the course/prestige of the uni

I majored in Environmental Science.

Positives: A lot of practical experience involved in this course so it isn't just completely theory

Negatives: There is a large number of international students due to the popularity of property development overseas. As a result, group assignments become difficult.

My advice to future students is: If you do complete this course, apply for jobs early as companies are always keen to hire due to a growing industry

Positives: 1. It was a two year degree which meant that you could finish it a lot faster than the other degrees in Melbourne eg. Bachelor of Nursing
2. There were a range of placements provided at good hospitals eg. Oncology, mental health, cardiac, gastro, rehab, med/surg etc. Some courses leave students stuck with just rehab placements but this wasn’t the case in this degree
2. Some lecturers were good and very skilled/knowledgeable

Negatives: 1. There was a lot of inconsistency between lecturers and marking of assignments and also with the some lecturers marking assignments differently. I often found that a lecturer would ask me to write a particular way for one assignment and when I did that for future assignments I was marked down and told not to. As such, it became very confusing and the majority of the cohort found the same issues.
2. Large number of drop out of students due to lecturers being inconsistent and not understanding the challenges students tried to talk to them about. The student cohort in my year got together and made a complaint about everything but we were told to leave the course if we weren’t happy and nothing was solved.
3. Teaching of at times, incorrect material - some of the material provided in the lectures, I have found to be incorrect.
4. The assignments are exactly the same for this nursing degree as the assignments for Melbourne’s medical degree
5. Assignments are challenging and you receive minimal support from staff

My advice to future students is: Would not recommend Nursing at the University of Melbourne

Negatives: Messy/disorganized delivery of course content, lack of communication between student body and lecturers to clarify changes to course requirements, lack of encouragement to utilize mental health support and difficulty in accessing said support when utilized.
