I found Uni.. I didn't enjoy it and wished it would end quicker, but I did learn important life skills like negotiating, planning, observing and delivering tasks on time

Positives: It taught me how to be more patient when dealing with others and their opinions.

Negatives: hours are sometimes long and boring.

My advice to future students is: forget about trying to get good grades. Learn the technical side and contemplate advises. These are LIFE skills you need when you work. Not how good you can write your essay.

Positives: This course is the best fashion design course in Australia and is ranked 17th in the world. The knowledge of all the lecturers is phenomenal. This is because all of the lecturers still work in industry, so all knowledge is up to date. The facilities are all state of the art, learning on industry standard machinery, which helps greatly when applying for jobs, as you are workplace ready.

Negatives: The course is very demanding. There are about 14 contact hours in a week, however another 28 hours of work is required of you to meet the standards of the course. The course is also very expensive, with all teachers expecting high quality fabric to be purchased.

My advice to future students is: Only apply if you can’t imagine yourself studying anything else, as the course is incredible but intense!

Positives: The positive aspects within this course are: being surrounded by likeminded people who have the same mindset of ambition, also seeing how other people are inspired by design, seeing how they apply their inspiration onto an assignment. The teaching styles are on point and always provide detail within every project and assignment given.

Negatives: The negative aspect with the course is not the course itself but the travel times from my area to the city, it can be unmotivating to get up very early and travel longer than your lecture times.

My advice to future students is: The piece of advice I would offer to potential future students is to stick with the plan of course that allows them to experiment more.

Positives: It was incredibly practical which has been amazing as I started working in the industry this year. The skills I learnt there were an absolute asset.
There was also a chance to go on an over seas study tour to London and Barcelona which was predominantly funded. This was an incredible experience.

Negatives: It takes a lot of time and effort, you have to be prepared to take time off part time work. Especially as I was spending 12 hours a day working on assessments on some days.
And at the end of the year there was a major project which we had to fund ourselves. Which did distinguish between people who could spend more and who couldn’t.
So from a financial prospect you need to be prepared to spend money and loose money as you take time off work.

My advice to future students is: Be prepared for a huge workload, particularly towards the end. However because you’re working so hard you do learn a lot, and it is worth it if this is the industry you want to be in. If it’s not don’t do it to yourself.
