Positives: The course is very easy to study. The content is well presented and there is lots of support.
Negatives: Because there are so many students studying the course, especially in the first year it can be hard to get one on one support or more time with the lecturer to ask questions.
My advice to future students is: It can be hard to find jobs outside of the degree.but not many people finish the whole degree and just use it to increase their GPA
Positives: All of the subjects are relevant to the course that I am studying. The ways of teaching within the subjects is all different so it is almost like real life aspects as it isn't always the same routine learning style.
Negatives: Besides the amount of work I have to do there isn't too much negativity
My advice to future students is: Always start your assignments when you get them and don't leave studying for exams to the last minute. If you do this you will have a hard time at uni
Positives: I find it interesting, there are heaps of resources available, the tutors and lecturers are very knowledgeable , good career pathways
Negatives: Workload is huge,
My advice to future students is: Make sure you DEFINITELY wanna do it before you commit
Positives: Love the interactive ness of the course and it is very interesting. It’s part of my career so perfect for me
Negatives: Not a lot really. Maybe the workload?
My advice to future students is: Start assignments early. Make time to study
Positives: It’s super super interesting and lots of hands on science. However it is hard to get a job at the end of and it seems like a lot of hard work
Negatives: Lots a hardwork for not much, there are easier courses I think to get onto the same pathway
My advice to future students is: There is more than one way to get the job you want or even the degree you want, it doesn’t depend on your OP all that much
Positives: Accessibility to great facilities
My advice to future students is: Make sure this is definitely what you want to do
Positives: The real world aspect. We get weekly prac classes allowing great training for the workforce and the laboratory resources are top of the range. The practical topics and activities are also very fun and interesting
Negatives: That it has quite a tough workload
My advice to future students is: Only enter this course if you have a passion for science, without that you won't be motivated and won't handle the work load.
Positives: The positive aspects of my course is that they provide a broad understanding of an introduction to the course, to cater for all levels, while at the same time managing to challenge students appropriately. The friendliness and helpfulness of all staff and students helps, as well as the interesting subjects as a whole.
Negatives: There is some inflexibility with contact hours, with some aspects of the course that are compulsory but some students including myself can't be present all the time. As well as this, when you miss classes it's sometimes hard to catch up on content in practicals and tutorials because of the hands on approach the university prides itself on.
My advice to future students is: Continue studying at a consistent pace, don't leave things to last minute, always ask stupid questions.
Positives: The course is mainly based around biology so if biology is a strong point or enjoyed, i highly recommend it but there are chemistry components so if chemistry is a strong point or enjoyed i would also recommend it, majors get to be chosen in second year and a wide variety of majors can be chosen, minors get to be chosen as well as electives, the OP for this course is a 10 so it is very achievable to get into, the course in general is amazing and i would highly recommend!
Negatives: The only negative aspects for me would be that there is chemistry integrated into the course and i dont like chemistry, as well as if you use the course to go into research, you need to do your honours and/or masters to even start researching or get considered to do any type of research
My advice to future students is: Dont stress so much! University is supposed to be about learning yes but have fun! Its not as scary as everyone makes it out to be, if you start your assignments a week or two before you'll have more than enough time and you wont have to stress! And always go to practicals unless an emergency to do with yourself, otherwise you will get no marks
Positives: SO MUCH FLEXIBILITY! I love all sciences and I’m not sure where to go with my career but the degree lets me really tailor to what I want to study. The units are really enjoyable and the staff are so helpful. I’ve met so many like-minded people because of this course
Negatives: It can be a little difficult but that’s expected with uni, especially uni science. It’s easily avoidable with study
My advice to future students is: It’s such a good course if you’re passionate about science. Make sure you love it and have purpose when you go in, otherwise you’ll lose motivation. Take your time to really understand what you want to study and don’t be afraid of the workload. It’s only scary when you think it’s scary.
