Positives: The University has a great reputation, is very well connected internationally (it has campuses in South Africa as well as Malaysia, as well as a study centre in Italy), and the academics that delivered the course were obviously great in their field. I learned a lot about the world and drew a broad education from the degree.
Negatives: Career prospects within the field (International Relations) are limited and there is no real pathway into the field through the course. It felt a lot like the university just wanted to attract as many students as possible with no regard for their career after graduating.
My advice to future students is: A piece of advice I would offer future students would be to consider doing a double degree, pairing international relations (or any Arts major), with another degree in a more in-demand field, most likely STEM.
Positive- the course is very well structured and the content very interesting. The job outcomes are great.
Negatives - a few of my tutors speak broken English which makes tutorials very difficult
My advice to future students is: Take the course and be prepared to absorb amazing information! Don’t worry about the amount of content (I have 12 contact hours maximum)!! It is amazing
Positive- student subject selection is incredibly varied and diverse
Negative- arts faculty can be limiting in providing funding for students
My advice to future students is: To do your readings!
The Master of Counselling is much better (than my undergrad). It is well organised, well resourced, and the teachers seem passionate about education.
Positives: very engaging, quality curriculum, everything is posted online which is a necessity for me
negatives: travel times for me are long
My advice to future students is: ask themselves if that course really offers what they want
Highly interesting and knowledgeable teachers. Odd course delivery schedule
My advice to future students is: Don't leave work to the last minute
Negatives - Not much student support. No placement support. Not a lot of detailed information.
Positives - Late night classes were good. Assignments were good
My advice to future students is: ACAP has a better course
Positive - It’s well organized and mostly interesting as well as easily applied to real life jobs
Negative - The units are quite dry and require lots of readings
My advice to future students is: Prepare yourself for the amount of work that you will get
Positive : there is a lot of interesting information to learn and great teachers there for support. I honestly feel like I am being educated.
Negative : with arts you have to be willing to put in time and effort to actually get the most you can out of it. A lot of reading to put the pieces together.
My advice to future students is: If you decide to do a course, do it like you mean it
Positives were the subject content and a few lecturers/tutors who were very engaged and helpful.
Negatives was lack of guidance in terms of career paths, and future pathways.
My advice to future students is: Seek out course advice as often as possible/needed.
