Positives: This course is very textbook orientated, which is good for people who like that.
Negatives: Hard to get support from teachers. Lectures are mostly reading from the textbook
My advice to future students: You will need to do a lot of independent self guided study
Positives: I really enjoy the social aspect of the university, there are many places to meet up with friends aswell as meet new people
Negatives: I wish there were more contact hours. I find I learn much better when a physical person is teaching it rather than an online file
My advice to future students: Stay ahead. Don’t fall behind.... it is very hard to catch up
Positives: The first thing I loved and what made me choose this university over others also providing this course was the location and facilities. This university is not like any others I have seen. The views are amazing and a great way to study. The facilities are modern and there are always places to study.
Negatives: That if you want to receive the social work association accreditation you must do a on campus course. This isn’t offered online which for a full time worker and a mother of three is very hard
My advice to future students is: Not to waste your time on a course your not passionate about. It’s a waste of time and money. Flinders offer open days to help you choose what you could study
Positives: The content is engaging and relevant to past, present and future media. It’s always being updated because there are new things coming out everyday.
Negatives: Sometimes the content can be dry. You have to participate in topics that you are uninterested in to do those you are interested in. The course is very broad which is good and bad.
My advice to future students is: The second year blues are real. After the first year you start to lose motivation. Keep going, persist unless you are really sure it isn’t for you. Take advantage of the tutors because they have interesting people giving their time to sharing their passion with you. Good luck
Positives: the teachers are very engaged and the field is expanding quickly. i also like being able to learn so much about so many social issues that are present in the world.
Negatives: the course is very modern and only draws on a lot of the most modern literature. this isnt normally a problem, but with such socially modern topics, it can be jarring when im learning about social elements that arent even accepted in society yet
My advice to future students is: to do what you enjoy, i tried other courses before this one and they never worked out. now that im doing something i think ill actually be able to enjoy in the future its much easier to stay engaged
Positives: The teachers are experienced professionals. There’s a diverse range of topics reviewed in class
Negatives: Long assessments
My advice to future students is: Give your best in the placements, and try to use all the University infrastructure
Positives: It’s a relatively easy course but only because I study a lot. All of the lecturers are also super helpful
Negatives: Lots of contact hours
My advice to future students is: Make sure you study and don’t miss the lectures. Yes they can be boring but they are definitely worth the time. They make exam season much easier
Positives: Tutors are always there to help.
Lecturers are replying emails and there for you.
Satisfaction on the environment it looks good and nice places to study.
Good technology to use to help study.
Good social events flinders has.
Will help me find a job
Negatives: It's a double degree I don't have electives.
I have to find placement outside of my uni course.
My advice to future students is: Do assessments early.
Prioritise your time.
Have a social life.
Talk to people in the course they will help you when doing assignments
Positives: Good for international students
Negatives: Not well organized topics
My advice to future students is: Choose this course carefuly
Positives: The variety of job opportunities worldwide
It’s a way of giving back to community
Negatives: Too many placement hours that are somewhat time wasted
Some trainers are not knowledgeable on some topics
My advice to future students is: Choose another university and not flinders
