Positives: It provides clinical placement that is really hard to find when entering the profession through a post graduate degree. It’s also the only undergraduate course if it’s kind that allows students to become qualified sonographers after completing the degree.

Negatives: I find that some of the unit coordinators aren’t really helpful and that the course content can be all over the place for some units.

My advice to future students is: If you think your passion is within medical sonography definitely consider this course as it offers placement for you. If you choose to go through the post graduate pathway into sonography, be mindful that it is extremely hard to find clinical placement so this degree has its benefits.

Positives: The ability to work closest with your tutors and be provided constant feedback and assistance. The ability to do physical practice and be provided practical sessions to build on scanning skills on students aids in preparation for placements and theory of the course and work environment.

Negatives: Unfortunately not enough practice sessions are available and limited to only four ultrasound units to practice on for the entire cohort. There is also no consistency in practical examination protocols. There is also a limitation on placement availability, therefore students may be waiting for placements up to six months without notice of dates and may compromise other work commitments.

My advice to future students is: This course is definitely altered for students who have a passion for this field and are completely determined in this pathway and what they want to do. Many students who are unsure about this pathway or limited in knowledge about what the course entails were most likely to drop out of the course or fail practical examinations.

Positives: Some online content. Informative and fun Residential schools

Negatives: Some new subjects that are still being fine-tuned so some content isn't well structured and difficult to follow

I'm studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Nursing.

Positives: Flexibility for the bachelor of business, I study it distance education and 80% of it doesn't have to be in a certain order

Negatives: Bachelor of Nursing is not flexible which makes it hard to do part time

My advice to future students is: Make sure you look into both degrees very early on, especially if you haven't got all your immunisation

Positives: I love the hands on experiences of the course, we get a lot of clinical sessions which is great, then we have placement - a great way to implement the skills learn

Negatives: A lot of it is distance, which makes it hard to stay on track

My advice to future students is: To make sure they stay on top of work, or know when assignments are due

Positives: really good with the actual sonography aspect as in the first few weeks you already start learning about the profession and how to read ultrasounds, however the anatomy subject is very full-on and the research skills subject is unnecessary

My advice to future students is: Be prepared to put a lot of time into the assignments and make sure you understand all the topics at the end of the week rather than going into the next week still confused
